About the Adventurer

Who I Am

Hi, I’m Jack and I have what I like to think of as adventures in museums, most people would probably call it an inabilty to resist wandering around rooms full of artefacts for hours on end. So I decided to start a blog chronicling my exploits.

I visit museums, galleries and other cultural places; the big ones, the small ones and all the ones in between. I have a particular soft spot for the odder kinds of museums, so if you have any recommendations, please let me know.

What I Do

When I’m not exploring them I’m usually working in museums; I do lots of digital stuff in/with/about museums in my day job as ย Content Coordinator for Show Me, a website that reveals all sorts of great things from museums and is aimed at children and young people 7-14. On the weekend I can usually be found in theย British Museum, ย facilitating family workshops in the Samsung Digital Discovery Centre.

Before I started all that though, I volunteered with Kids in Museums (with whom I’m still working with as their Sign Up Manager) and the Cartoon Museum, where I learned a lot about how museums work, in return I helped them get their social media up and running.

I have also set up the online Museum of Museum Badges as a way to share my collection of Museum Badges as well as my Museum Adventures.

And so, here I am Adventuring!

  2. Hiya I noticed you tweet throught the British Museum and then stumbled on your blog! I love it! I am a bit of museum geek myself and work in a gallery in London so its nice to see im not the only wee museum geek too!

  3. What sort of thing do you do in the museum world and like how did you get into it. I did a Geography/Archaeology degree and loved going to museums from a young age, if you dont mind me asking?

    • Hi Sophie, I do lots of different things in the museum world; I built up my experience in volunteer roles (which I did alongside a part-time job). After I gained experience in these roles I was able to get a position at the British Museum.

  7. Hello, Jack, my name is Duncan Smith, and I’m the sole author of the ‘Only In’ Guides. I also enjoy quirky, less well known museums, and always include them in my books. The Museum of Forgeries in Paris, for example, and the Moulage Museum in Zurich. I’m very much enjoying your postings. Thanks! And if you want further details of my own work please visit: http://www.onlyinguides.com. Happy Exploring! Duncan
